Beacon Associates Named in Baltimore Sun’s Top Workplaces 2011
February 7, 2012 11:20 amBeacon Associates was recently named as one of the best places to work in and around Baltimore by The Baltimore Sun, landing in the Top 75 Workplaces 2011.
Beacon works hard to create a company culture where employees can realize their full potential. “Interviewees and new hires immediately see the collaboration, the respect we have for each other—the culture, the personality of this company: we embody it. People want to work for companies like Beacon,” said CEO and President Carol Koffinke.
Opportunities to telework, career paths within the organization, good benefits, and a chance to make a difference also top the list of qualities that won Beacon a spot in the Top Workplaces 2011 report.
Koffinke firmly believes that Beacon attracts and retains a highly-skilled team by maintaining a positive reputation, offering competitive compensation, and creating a flexible work environment. “We incorporate the values of integrity, service, and high expectations into the way we manage Beacon. I’m proud to say that our corporate voluntary retention rate is 96% over the life of the company, including Beacon’s Leadership Team,” said Koffinke.
In 2011, Beacon marked a major milestone by exceeding 200 employees. Not only that, Beacon was one of ten companies honored with the Greater Baltimore Committee’s “Bridging the Gap” Minority Business Award, and became a finalist for “Contractor of the Year” in the Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards. In addition, Carol Koffinke was recognized as Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young in 2009, and Beacon was ranked on Washington Technology’s Fast 50 list in 2006 and 2007.
“Every one of these successes is only possible because of our people,” said Koffinke. “Our employees are leaders and that’s reflected in our vision statement: ‘We attract the best people by providing the opportunity to realize their full potential. Beacon is a place to excel and a great place to work. We develop leaders.’ Apart from those things we also make a serious commitment to our employees in creating a culture of work-life balance.”
Employees across the Baltimore region submitted more than 12,000 nomination surveys to The Baltimore Sun. A small group of 113 companies rose to the top as front runners with the highest number of nominations. Companies selected as a Top 75 Workplace excelled when measured against the final deciding criteria of company leadership, career opportunities, workplace flexibility, and compensation and benefits.
