Beacon Associates Recognized For Outstanding Achievement

Beacon Associates recently received a Bridging the Gap award for outstanding achievement by a minority or woman-owned business by the Greater Baltimore Committee at a ceremony held on November 17.

In less than 10 years, Beacon Associates founder Carol Koffinke has achieved success in the male-dominated federal contracting sector. As an organizational development and performance consulting firm, Beacon Associate employs over 200 people and is among the Wall Street Journal’s top 20 fastest growing woman-led firms in North America.

“If your dream is to be successful in business, don’t let being a minority stand in your way,” says Koffinke, who is now Beacon’s President and CEO. “There are several very impactful programs out there to get you started and to support you along the way.”

Koffinke compared receiving the award to when Beacon Associates, which she started in 2001 and incorporated the following year, received its certification as a minority business.

“I think getting my minority business certification really jump-started this company. It really made a difference to my trajectory,” says Koffinke. “It gives you credibility in terms of your values. People like to work with companies that have values.”

Bridging the Gap is an initiative of the Greater Baltimore Committee, designed to advance the business culture of greater Baltimore by fostering an atmosphere in which majority-, minority-, and women-owned businesses can form mutually-beneficial strategic partnerships. The Bridging the Gap Initiative strives to provide businesses with the necessary tools and support to develop such collaborations.
