Beacon was awarded their follow-on contract to provide training support services to the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) as a subcontractor to Apprio, an 8(a) certified small business. The CDP is the nation’s premier all hazards training center that hosts emergency responders on its Anniston, AL campus from around the country and globe.

Beacon held this contract from 2009-2014, wherein they performed a full range of management tasks to include student services, outreach, travel support, records maintenance, and student transportation services. As a member of the Apprio team, Beacon’s staff will continue to support the everyday training support needs of the CDP to include recruiting and registering students, arranging travel for students and trainers, performing admissions support, and serving as the initial collection point for all training statistics and student records generation.

“The CDP is a very close knit community and we are thrilled that we can continue to be a part of it,” says Beacon Vice President of Business Services, Amy Pfaff.  “In the past five years, we have established many strong, lasting relationships with the staff at CDP.  By leveraging these relationships and collaborating as one team, we’ve been able to identify innovations and efficiencies that move the center to the next level.  We look forward to continuing this partnership and to help CDP achieve its vision for the future.”

The Apprio-Beacon team will continue the ongoing performance improvement approach that Beacon has put in place. Through the process improvements and innovations implemented on the prior contract iteration, CDP saw over $3 million in cost savings. Beacon also worked with the CDP to introduce and implement Apple iPads into the classroom.

Prime contractor, Apprio, provides specialized program support and technology solutions, particularly for Homeland Security, the Defense, and Health markets. Apprio’s mission centers on solving our nation’s most complex problems and their similar contract experience demonstrates this focus of supporting preparedness and emergency response organizations, with FEMA as their largest customer.

“When you combine Apprio’s emergency response experience at FEMA, and other similar agencies, with Beacon’s relationship and understanding of the work, our partnership makes perfect sense and provides the utmost value to CDP,” stated Darryl Britt, Apprio’s President and Founder.

CDP is a part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which is an agency under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). CDP’s mission is to train emergency response providers from state, local, and tribal governments, as well as the Federal government, foreign governments, and private entities. The scope of training includes preparedness, protection, and response.  The CDP began operations in June 1998 as the only all-hazards training center, offering training on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive weapons. Located in Anniston, Alabama, CDP is the only federally chartered Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) training center.
